How do I create a binder?

A Binder is a type of material that allows you to collect and organize text from multiple books, documents, and other materials on LiveCarta. You can add your own custom content to Binders from materials you have purchased or created.

To learn how to add text from various sources into a Binder please see FAQ on How do I add things to my binder?

You can create a Binder 4 different ways:

    1. On the "My Library" page, select “Binders” on the left-side panel. Then click “Create Binder” button in the top right corner of the page.

    2. From the Dashboard page, select “Sell Study Materials”. Next choose “Create Binder” and then click “Submit”.

    3. From the “All Materials” page select “Create new”, and then select “Binder”.

    4. From inside a text, you can also highlight a passage when reading a material and select “Add to Binder”. You will then have the option to add the text to an existing Binder or create a new Binder.

      • A pop-up will temporarily appear that will allow you to go to the Binder, and you may continue these steps.

Once you have created your Binder:

    1. You can give the binder a title (you can still update the title later on as long as it hasn’t been published) then hit “Save”.

    2. To start adding content to your Binder you can add segments from the table of contents in the “Front of Paper” tab or go into the “Segment” tab and select “Add New Segment”.
      • You can use the drag and drop function (indicated by three horizontal lines) to change the order of segments. Name your segment and click “Save” if you want to continue making new segments.
      • During this step, or later by selecting the pencil icon next to the segments, you may designate a segment as an introduction. This introduction segment will be anchored as the first segment and cannot be moved.

    3. Click the segments to open the content block, this space is where you can add your content.

    4. Select a content block to start writing, a toolbar will appear with options that can be used to customize format and style. You can include multimedia such as videos (such as YouTube and other video service sites), pictures, audio, and more to add context and make your binder more interactive.

    5. Use the “Actions” menu on the bottom right corner of a content block to add a new section or content block, and remove segments.

    6. Select “Preview” from the “Options” menu to see what your binder will look like if it’s shared or published. Your work saves as you type so you can exit the page at any point and your binder will remain in an unpublished editable mode.
