Success is a lot like the stock market. It's all about timing and making the right decisions. But it also takes hard work, persistence and dedication to your goals. And while you can't control everything that happens in your career, there are some things you can do to help make sure that success happens on your terms. Work hard

It's true: hard & disciplined work is the key to success in career. Hard work isn't just about working long hours; it also involves making yourself available when opportunities arise so that someone else can notice your talents and value them as much as you do! No matter how small or big an opportunity may seem at first glance—if it comes with some kind of upside potential (and oftentimes these things do), then grab onto it with both hands!

Build a brand

Building your brand is the process of creating a unique image and identity for your business. It's about developing an image that differentiates you from others in the marketplace, builds trust with customers, and makes you memorable. A brand is what makes people feel a connection to an organization or product—and it can be used as an effective marketing tool if done right!

Have a mentor

Mentors are a great way to learn and grow, but they can be hard to find. That’s why it’s important that you go out of your way to find mentors in places other than your workplace or university.

  • In your organization: If you work at a company where there may not be anyone who will mentor you, look outside the walls of the building! Talk with people outside of work who could help guide and inspire you—and make sure those people know what kind of advice they should offer their mentee(s). You might even consider joining an alumni group or volunteering on committees within the organization so that when an opportunity arises for formal mentoring between departments/departments/projects within said organization, someone will already know how best to prepare themselves beforehand!
  • Online: While social media platforms like Facebook can be great places for connecting with others personally (as well as keeping up-to-date via updates shared by friends), there are also plenty of opportunities available online which allow us all access knowledge regardless whether we use them personally or not :)

Be proactive

One of the most important things to know about yourself is that being proactive is a good thing. It's not just about taking on projects and making sure you're working hard, but also about how you approach your work day. If you want to be successful in anything—and if you really want it—it's going to take some effort and planning on your part.

Being proactive doesn't mean doing everything by yourself; it means acknowledging that there are other people who could help out with tasks as well, even if they aren't necessarily "idle" at work like me!

Don't multitask

You've probably heard the term multitasking, but what does it mean? It's a myth that you can do multiple things at once. In fact, research has shown that multitasking is actually bad for your brain and increases stress levels.

Multitasking isn't efficient or productive in career, studying or personal life: when we try to juggle several tasks at once, instead of focusing on one task at a time, we're more likely to make mistakes or take longer than necessary to complete our work because there's always something else going on in our head besides what we're supposed to be doing right now (which could include watching TV). Multitasking also doesn't help us get any work done faster; instead of spending less time doing something (like reading an article), you'll spend more time because every little thing takes up space in your head until eventually all those thoughts start interfering with each other!

Be willing to share the spotlight

If you’re a hard worker and someone else is doing something that makes your life easier, be open about it—and show appreciation for their contribution. We all know how easy it is for people to take credit for others’ hard work, but when they do this sincerely, they are rewarded with praise from their colleagues, as well as admiration from their boss or manager.

Also remember: everyone wants recognition! Everyone works hard at what they do; if someone doesn't receive attention for doing something well (or even just being nice), then there's going to be some tension in the workplace because no one feels appreciated or recognized by others who should also be praised accordingly!

Be authentic

This is a big one, and it's easy to get sidetracked by the importance of being yourself. But honestly? You need to start with being real and honest with yourself about who you are and what motivates you, so that when people ask about your goals in life or what makes them tick (and they will), they have an idea of where those answers come from.

Be open with others who may not be as close as family members or friends but still have access to more information than most people have access to; this includes co-workers at work too! If someone asks about something personal like health issues or financial concerns—things that aren't necessarily private—it's important not only for them but also for other employees who may overhear this conversation without meaning any harm by doing so themselves later down the road if they want employment opportunities within another company after being fired over some minor offense committed while working there previously.

Don't be afraid to admit when you're wrong

The key to succeeding in any career is being able to admit your mistakes, learn from them and then move on. It's not a sign of weakness—it's a sign that you're willing to grow as an individual and make changes that will benefit your future success.

A lot of people are afraid of admitting when they're wrong because they don't want others to think badly about them; however, this can only lead to more opportunities for growth instead of stagnation if handled properly. If someone has made a mistake then there should be no shame in admitting it; rather than keeping quiet about something which could have been avoided altogether if handled differently in the first place!

Network with other successful people

Networking is an essential skill for career success. In fact, it's one of the most important things you can do to get ahead in your career.

Networking isn't just about meeting people—it's about building relationships and creating connections with others who have similar goals as you do. It's about sharing information and knowledge so that you can help each other out, which ultimately leads to greater job opportunities for both parties involved.

Successful people don't only network; they network up! This means not only making connections with others through social media platforms like LinkedIn or Twitter but also reaching out directly if possible (emailing vs calling someone who has posted on their wall). You should also look into attending local events where there might be potential employers present so that they can see how well-rounded your skillset is when compared against other candidates' resumes/resumes alone.

Don't stop learning
